On 25th November, the Ambassador of the European Union to China Hans Dietmar Schweisgut opened the EU@60 Exhibition at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing, as part of a series of events to mark the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome on 25th March 1957, that laid the foundations of the European Union as we know it today.

In order to celebrate the 60th anniversary in 2017 in China, the Delegation of the European Union to China has produced an exhibition called "EU@60 - An ever-closer union", using text, pictures, videos and interactive content to introduce the European Union and its history, its evolution as well as information on EU-China relations, to a Chinese audience, in particular university students and other young people.

The Exhibition was initially displayed in Shanghai's Fudan University for two weeks from 21st May, and then travelled to Guangzhou to be shown at Sun Yat-sen University for two weeks from 14th September.  The Exhibition at UIBE will be the last stop of the Exhibition this year.

EU Ambassador Schweisgut said at the opening ceremony:

“The European Union was initially built to make war impossible in Europe and promote peace and prosperity not only in Europe but around the world. China and the EU,being two of the largest economies in the world, have a joint responsibility to work towards stability and world peace, today more than ever. We hope that through this exhibition we can help to foster more mutual understanding as we work towards common global solutions to common global challenges."

The EU hopes that with the support and cooperation from UIBE, the exhibition will enhance knowledge of the European Union among Chinese youth and promote the EU-China cooperation in general.

After the exhibition, EU Ambassador Schweisgut also addressed the International Youth Dialogue of UIBE expressing his wish to promote understanding, exchanges and communications among Chinese and European youth.
